1988 and older imports The previous "15 year old" import laws ended in May 2005 and were replaced with a standard 1988 and older ruling - this means that you can import anything manufactured up until the end of December 1988 in the same was as the 15 year old import laws worked previously.A form of compliance must still be done for 1988 and older imports, although it's not as strict or costly as the SEVS compliance scheme for newer models - exact requirements and costs will vary a fair bit between makes/models and depending on which state you are in, so please contact your local registration authority and/or compliance workshops in your state to get more exact information.
