The Minister for Transport and Regional Services has entered the following vehicles on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles, basically this means that only cars listed here will be allowed for import under the SEVS scheme - although these vehicles are all allowed for import, you must also find a RAWS certified compliance workshop that is approved for the vehicle model that you wish to import.

The reasons for the eligibility of each model are specified in the links, only the variants listed are allowed - for example: the Toyota Chaser is allowed with the 2.5L twin turbo (1JZ-GTE) and 3.0L non-turbo (2JZ-GE) engine, but not the less powerful 2.5L non-turbo (1JZ-GE) as it does not meet the minimum power to weight ratio necessary under the SEVS scheme.

The fact that a vehicle is included on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles does not guarantee it will be able to gain approval to be plated. A vehicle may not be able to satisfy specific ADR requirements even though it meets the requirements set out for eligibility on the Register.

Some other vehicles that are not listed here may still be allowed for import but you would have to submit an application to check for eligibility.
For vehicles to be approved they must be a Make or Model that was NOT supplied to Australia in full volume, or a similar vehicle that is badged differently (eg. Holden Frontera & Isuzu MU) - simply having a different engine, tranmission or drive train will not make the vehicle eligible either ... all vehicles must also meet at least two of the four following criteria to qualify:

• Appearance - Significant difference in appearance to popular class of vehicle in that category
• Unusual Design - Significant difference in sub-assemblies to popular class of vehicle in that category
• Performance - Significant difference in level of performance to popular class of vehicle in that category

• Publications - Featured in specialist motoring magazines in "as manufactured" condition

Vehicle currently approved are likely to be affected if approval is granted to supply the same model to the Australian market in full volume. Only those vehicles with a build date prior to the date of supply in full volume will remain as eligible. The SEVS scheme excludes all vehicles that are 15 years old or more, which are available for import under the 15 year old rules.
